I Know You Hate It...

You hate hockey. Hockey told me all about it the other day in the cafeteria. That's fine... it is not for everyone... at least, in the regular season. But it crushes... and I mean it obesely sits on the head of any other sport in playoff form... and crushes the bejesus out of it. John Madden (not that one) is a forward for the New Jersey devils who said in an interview that only two months AFTER winning his Stanley Cup... did he get up in the morning and not feel like something was hurt or broken on his body. That's tough. Back in 1998, a neighbor got a playstation and the game we sat down to play that day blew my mind. It was EA's perennial NHL 98.... a game some people say to this day was their best outing. If that can't be said, we can at least agree that the video intro for the game is the best in the business. This was before CGI in game graphics or EMO bullshit. This gets me pumped. This makes me want to hurt people. People who don't like hockey. Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals betwixt the Ottawa Senators and the Anaheim Ducks, tonight on VS.

Comcast Basic Cable Coincidental Actor Double Feature Profile: Sean Bean

Explanation after the Jump.

So yeah, I told you before I have this theory about the same actor being in two different movies on the same day on Comcast basic cable. Today's featured actor is Sean Bean. You've seen him in films like Ronin, Patriot Games, and Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. Now don't get your Eberts in a bunch because he's not mentioned in National Treasure's "info" bar. I already explained how Comcast will put the most obscure actor, hell, they'll put the name of the lead gaffer in the box before any of the significant supporting cast. I also find it ironic that Bean plays best friend to Nick Cage and Pierce Brosnon in both films respectively, only to become their worst enemeies in the end. I mean... isn't it ironic? Don't ya think?

Post Me... I'm Italian!

If you were in close proximity of the Italian Market (9th Street, South Philadelphia) on Saturday or Sunday, you might have heard such things as "That was one spicy meat-a-ball," or "Naganooch!" Why? Because of the yearly Sorrento Cheese Italian Festival. That's why. Aside from the intermittent rain it was a fine experience. Click after the jump for pics of mohawks, gay sopranos, sammiches, and rizzos.

Anyone Remember Scribbles...?

There was a time when I was tapped to do regular comic for the local blog site, Phillyist, until I read the fine print and realized I might not own my work once it was published. So now I just make myself laugh with these "Scribbles" and don't share them with anyone. UNTIL NOW! In honor of Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto" coming out on DVD, I figure this comic has once again become relevant. Matt Casamassina, Nintendo-god for IGN, seems to think there's some sort of conspiracy involving Mel Gibson's views of certain type of people and how they might affect his ability to make motion pictures. Yeah, and EGM doesn't like Nintendo. You be the judge.

You Typin' to Me...?

Perhaps the title of Anthony's film should read, "Grocery Manager." The real deal and a family portrait after the jump.

Imitation is the highest form o' flattery, right Mr. Bickle?

I'm suprised they let these people in Duffers.

I need a Mayor-cure!

In what could possibly be the straw that breaks the back of the camel that is our fair city, Tom Knox's army handed out nail files reading "Vote Tom Knox Mayor" on Sunday, May 13. Picture this... you're a mom on your way to a big Mother's Day dinner. You chip a nail. Darn... what's a gal to do? File that bitch up...? Then what? Vote for Tom Knox...? You bet your sweet child producing ass you will. After the jump, I show you how Michael Nutter's catchy campaign handout failed when a child had some sort of allergic reaction. Plus, it made mommies fat.

I keed! I keed! There was no allergic child. Who needs a scandal like that with the election so close? If you're registered to vote in Philadelphia, that means you live in Philadelphia... and you probably shouldn't go outside cause you might get shot. But if you do go outside, VOTE.

On the Run...?

Four closeups after the jump.

Re-YOU-nion de Maximilliahn...

Sometimes the most random and unplanned of experiences are the ones that end up being the most fun. Take this night, for example. Andrew is fresh off a 20 some hour drive from Ar-Kansas, shortly after leaving Iraq. He asked me to have a drink at Maximillian's and to tell anybody else to come along. So everybody and their mothers, who are so hard to get to show up for anything, end up at Max's to see him. I'm talking a reunion of peoples who haven't been together in at least four to five years. Images of the night follow after the jump.

Kick It!

On Sunday, April 22, 2007... the Lakota group, a team headed by John Dimino and comprised of students and staff from Temple University, held a kick-ball oriented fund raiser. Teams of students and anyone else who wanted to play (that's me!) hit the "turf" on Temple's campus with the money raised from this event and cookout, plus all proceeds from the Draught Horse fund raiser two days later going towards a trip the Lakota group is taking to South Dakota on the 19th of May. After the Jump, there's team names, photographs and movies of that most gorgeous day.

Here's the list of teams:

1. Team Kick the Ball Far

2. Love Harpoons

3. R.O.C.S.

4. Tuttleman

5. ATO

6. Team sloppy

7. Playground Legends (champs)

8. Temple Swim Club

9. Hooter's Hotties (see cheer videos below)
